Our sweet Periwinkle Pug

Finches and friends attended our second annual Curly Tails and Cocktails dinner hosted by Pug Partners of Nebraska this past weekend.

The event and company were once again amazing. We had such a wonderful time. Thank you Pug Partners for including us. And THANK YOU for saving ALL the Pugs. It has always amazed me the sky high number of lives you save every year.

Talking to a very kind Pug Partners volunteer right after the event, it sounds like these past two years have been especially expensive because of even higher numbers than usual of Puggies to save and because of all the issues they have had. Pugs, as we know, are perfect, but they do have issues!

Maybe my favorite photo of Periwinkle!

So stay tuned for how you can help!

We had so many of our favorite people there, at our tables and through the room.

The photographer had just made Jaime and Dillon kiss for a photo then Russ and me - I said “Don’t make us kiss this time!” This is just after Jaime said, “Oh my God Finch!” I love this photo of us so much :) Courtesy of KJ Jasa Photography

I once again tricked our friend Ross into attending the evening with us by lying. I wanted to make sure friends and family who do not own cocktail attire were comfortable attending. I do not own cocktail attire - and it is NOT required - everyone who was there looked amazing. As usual, when I look my best, my Mom dressed me!

Russ and me - Didn’t Mom dress me nice?

“You can wear ANYTHING Ross, or even nothing if you want,” I said.

“Well, I will wear SOMETHING,” he said.

”We need to help spread the word about the good the group is doing, and wearing clothes does NOT make headlines Ross!”

The attempted guilt trip was unsuccessful, and Ross showed up dressed. He looked very nice. And ended up in this published work so…sorry I lied (again) Ross. I just wanted you to be there. At some point, when someone keeps lying, you gotta stop believing they are sorry. But not this time, Ross. Also, thank you for being there. I had a very nice evening with you and the group.

Have you met Ross? I hope so, because he is great.

Janie and I - and probably our people - were a little concerned that having had our Pugs pass away and attending a Pug event would be too sad. It was not. More bittersweet. And a good way to honor the memory of our past Pugs. I love you Periwinkle Pug. And I love you Helt Pugs, who if memory serves me, were all Pug Partners adoptees. It was nice for Russ and Blue and Abby and me to quietly celebrate Periwinkle, who we still miss terribly. And I hope it was nice for Janie and Matt to celebrate their Puggies too.

Any event is better with Cindy and Tae there of course. And Jaime and Dillon. And Erika and our family. I was so happy Abby’s friends Brittany and Hunter could swoop in too!

I loved having Tara there and meeting Mark. I had an invite for all up on the work fridge, but there is lots of stuff on the fridge…Next year I will be louder at inviting all of you, work friends. Less like me and more like a Pug! Sorry friends - come with Tara and me next year! Dinner’s on me!

Thank you all for joining us!

I didn’t even get anxious at the live auction this time! Well except when Russell had this gorgeous quilt bumped up to several hundred dollars! Woulda been worth it - just look at it! I love it! But a very deserving Pug-saving couple went home with it at the end of the evening, and we again went home with a beautiful basket from the silent auction.

Erika and I noticed that Schlessingers - who have owned some of the cutest Pugs we have known (in an every-Pug tie) - donated quite a bit to the cause. It made me happy thinking how many people who are NOT on our radar must have helped.

Omaha is amazing. I will always love that about our community.

Abby with the centerpiece she adopted! She already taught him how to walk on a leash and shake before the night was through!

Come with us next year! And remember…
