Luna Lovegood - Chapter 6 - Waiting
Thursday, December 14, 2017
Yesterday was waiting.
I try to only check my email accounts once a day unless I am waiting for a specific email. Yesterday I finally left my work email open on my phone because I was checking it so often I was wasting time.
At 10 am I called VCA MidWest Vet to ask about next steps should Luna have cancer. I knew I was jumping the gun, but I needed to do something while I waited. Dr. Cooley was so kind. She walked me through everything. I have never been a client there. I have only referred patients to them. If we need to go, I am convinced it will be a positive experience.
At 5 pm as I was finishing an appointment and starting two more, the answer came from the pathologist - Luna has lymphoma. “I am sorry to say,” the report started. I stared at the screen. I had to close my email and focus on the last two pups of the day. They and their families deserved my full attention.
Back home, I gathered the family and told them the news. “It’s cancer, but it’s very treatable,” I said. Seeing how upset I still was, Amanda and Abby asked if there was more. I told them that though it is treatable, I thought that average survivability with treatment is about one year.
The rest of the evening was tears and comforting and holding Luna and to end the night, Home Alone.
Abby said, “We will make the time she has wonderful.”
And so we will.
