As always, all of the photos on the blog are color corrected to match dog and cat vision except for Abby’s beautiful art which is in full color.
In this post, Abby’s art is a wood burning piece she created of her and her boyfriend Max’s roommate’s dog - he comes up later!
On to our story…
A few months ago, Abby adopted a kitten she and Blue found running wild in the streets of Omaha, as kittens and cats are known to do.
They caught him with a live trap and had him checked for a microchip and did all the things to look for any possible existing owner.
Thankfully for Abby and all of us, he was a true Omaha wild kitten. Only not so much wild as snuggly.
His name is Jesse Pinkman, and though we ALL have all the cat allergies, and I cannot pet my very own grandkitten, we all love him so much.
Updates since adoption -
Blue made Jesse a tiny hat to match Abby’s hat for his first kitten appointment with Dr. Neubert.
I told a cashier when Russ and I were buying a cat toy that it was for our grandkitten.
She asked if my cat had kittens. “No!” I said.
I explained that my kid has a kitten. Then that my kid is a human. Then that Jesse is a feline. Then that she did not birth Jesse but adopted him. I did not stop till it was super awkward! As is my norm.
She said “Oh! One of those free Omaha community cats! I wish I could have one.”
“I wish I could too,” I said. And we sighed together. I love cat people. And cats.
One time, Jesse went missing, and Abby was really worried. I told her to have Alex (their roommate) put Tündeë (his giant dog) in his room and to look through the house with a flashlight. I promised he would turn up.
Tündeë is a huge beautiful mix who is friends with only a few people including Abby. When she and Max brought Jesse home as a tiny baby cat, I recommended they introduce him and Tündeë first through a closed door then on opposite sides of a baby gate then together but supervised…and very slowly.
Clients NEVER seem to hear this great advice when they get a new pet! They toss the new guy into the mix and hope for the best! And it usually works to be honest. But Abby and Max were very diligent about introducing the giant dog and the tiny kitten right.
Guess where they found Jesse? Who, by the way, could absolutely hear his name being called for hours on end. I imagine he spent the evening thinking how great a name he had without it occurring to him to respond.
When they found Jesse, he and Tündeë were snuggled up together in the corner of Alex’s room happy as could be. Because of Abby and Max’s hard work introducing them both, he was safe in the paws of his giant best friend. Until then, no one but the two of them even knew they were best friends.
The next day Russ and I left a Christmas toy on the porch for Jesse with a note that said to remember to ask your Mom before you go hang out with your friends and always let her know where you will be.
And everyone lived happily ever after.
And will.
Love you Jesse and family!
