This is the next post in a month long series on depression.
On Sunday, September 10, 2017, we walked with our friends and Heartland Pride in the Out of the Darkness Omaha Walk. This is a national event to raise awareness of the risks of and facts about suicide, led by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which is striving to lower the suicide rate 20% by 2025.
Veterans have suicide rates 1.2 times that of the general population.
Doctors and dentists have suicide rates twice that of the general population.
Veterinarians and lesbian, bisexual and gay individuals have suicide rates four times that of the general population.
Transgender individuals attempt suicide twenty two times more often than the general population.
Transgender individuals attempt suicide TWENTY TWO times more often than the general population.
Transgender individuals attempt suicide TWENTY TWO times more often than the general population.
Sometimes God lets our hearts be broken for people groups, then heals our hearts in such a way that we can be used to help heal other hearts. My heart is broken over these statistics and the people behind them. Lord, heal my heart in such a way that I can be used to help heal other hearts.
