Our daughter Abby Finch is back to grooming at the Petsmart at 72nd near Dodge!
Abby did some training at the Oakview Petsmart, my (very) old stomping grounds, and is back to her home Petsmart Grooming Salon where she will be long term.
It is, of course, possible to be very biased and also correct, and with that in mind I say, Abby is the best!!
She grooms Dougie which, I hope you can appreciate, must be no easy task.
Imagine grade school Rusty with his beautiful curls, at the barbar with his Mom - who probably just wants to get errands done and get back home with the kids - spinning in the chair and touching all the combs, knocking over the shampoo…Dougie is his Dad’s dog! It can’t be easy!
Abby’s other recent groom who is my favorite puppy owned by my favorite person, is Baby Appa. (Brittany is teaching him to say “Yip yip!”)

Although Appa is a perfect angel (do not get Brittany’s confirmation on this), he IS a puppy, and puppies can be challenging to groom (see grade school Rusty compared to how well behaved he is for our friend Kiersey at Trios Salon these days…)
And LOOK HOW CUTE Appa’s first puppy cut is!! To be fair, he is naturally gorgeous like Dougie. But, as mentioned, he is a puppy, and puppies can be squirrely.
Abby said she got bright pink nail polish on his neck and one paw. And she asked him if he wanted bows, and he did not. So he got no bows.
As I sit here with bright blue nail polish AROUND my nails, after practicing TONS staying in the lines in coloring books, I get it.
But do you know what made me so very proud about that situation? Besides Appa’s groom being absolutely adorable, of course.
Abby asked. And Appa said no.
“He wasn’t having it, Mom!” Seems an innocuous detail. I cried then and I am crying writing this.
I am so proud that Abby is so very sensitive to what the dogs on her table do and don’t want, can and can’t handle. Grooming goes from a chore, or much worse, A Very Scary Time, to a fun spa day.
You have the good groomers and you have the amazing groomers. These are the ones I keep near, and Abby is - as a groomer and a person - amazing.
