Last night I drank a Colorado Bulldog to toast a euthanized patient and the end of a full, rich, heartbreaking week.
My friend lost her brother.
A favorite patient drank an entire pitcher of Colorado Bulldogs stolen from the deck as his family chatted around him. The emergency veterinary team saved him from severe alcohol poisoning.
This week, ten years later, the family gathered again. We said goodbye to their little drink stealing survivor. And they told me his story.
We said goodbye to another favorite patient.
We said goodbye to another favorite patient.
We euthanized a Betta fish. I sat with him as he swam himself to sleep.
We said goodbye to another favorite patient. A week prior, his housemate dog also passed away.
My friend lost her brother.
My friend lost her brother.
My friend lost her brother.
All week I pictured a tiny sapling in a far off forest being planted to honor the life of a beautiful well-loved Betta fish. That tree will indeed be planted and will grow ridiculously larger than the entire world of that tiny fish.
I love you Erin.
I am so sorry for your loss.
