The same family who had the Labrador who loved to eat everything was at the lake for the day. Their other older Lab had been swimming and playing most of the day and was now unable to walk.
When they arrived, we had to bring him in on a stretcher. He had not overdone it as I feared (hoped), but was having difficulty breathing. Once he was well oxygenated and hydrated, we took chest x-rays.
His lung fields were full of metastasis from an unknown primary cancer.
I assessed the radiographs out loud with my team (see title), then slowly made my way up front to gather the family.
His family said good bye to their second Labrador one week to the day after saying good bye to their first Labrador.
